Holiday Escapes
Ways to Slow Down and Reflect
By Karen Susman
Have a "Sabbath" in every day. This isn't a religious Sabbath. Light a candle, have a cup of tea and just be for five minutes. - Take a bubble bath. Put relaxing aroma oils in the bath.
- Reflect on enjoyable memories.
- Reflect on your successes.
- Watch the clouds.
- Pet an animal.
- Have date night.
- Enjoy a glass of cool water.
- Stay in the moment even for small things like washing your hands. Feel the water, the soap, the towel. This stops your mind and slows you down.
- Get into nature. Look at the clouds, go to the park, woods or forest, arrange flowers, take photos of nature.
- Call a friend.
- Watch snowflakes or rain fall.
- Stop. Listen for five sounds. Look for five sites. Smell five different smells. Feel five different textures. This slows you down, gets your mind off of things and reveals the abundance all around you.
